Sun Valley garden design with native planting

2015-17 Private garden

Dry Californian garden design

Front garden view

The design of this private garden in Sun Valley, Los Angeles involved replacing an existing lawn in the front garden with a native-style landscape to better suit the climate. Pebbles and boulders of different sizes were used to cover the ground in the style of a dry river bed. A sinuous path ran across the space to mimic the flow of a small river. Species were chosen to thrive in the sunny, dry conditions prevalent in this part of California, and reduce the need for expensive irrigation. The back garden was designed to provide a series of outdoor spaces for dining and play within a green setting.
