Street Landscape Design
Streetscape design projects in South London
2015-17 Project Centre/London Borough of Lewisham
This project involved streetscape improvements to the northern end of Deptford High Street in South London, working with Project Centre and the London Borough of Lewisham. Footpaths were paved in Granite flags with a subtle mix of different colours. Matching Granite setts were used to form pedestrian crossing points and parking bays. A small public space at the entrance to the church was improved with new paving and planting. Large stone bollards defined the pedestrian area, and a path of contrasting Yorkstone flag paving formed a visual connection to the church. All hardscape detailing needed to be tough and durable.
A second project involved concept design, consultation, planning and detailed design for streetscape improvements in Forest Hill. This included new street trees, improved bus stops, better parking areas and new paving materials. Granite paving was used to improve the quality of the public realm, and planting and seating were added where buildings were set back from the road edge. Subtle variations in Granite colour were used to define special areas, with a mix of different sizes of flag and sett. Pedestrian accessibility was a key consideration along the street with dropped kerbs and level crossings.
